🍽️Dish It

Support

Email dishit@dancykier.com and a person will read it.

Getting started

On first launch you pick a username. There is no email and no password. That identity is stored in your device keychain, so deleting and reinstalling the app keeps the same account and all your notes.

Find a restaurant by typing its name — the app searches places already saved and offers Apple Maps suggestions underneath. Pick one and you land on its menu.

Scanning a menu

Open a restaurant, tap +, then Scan the menu. Photograph one page at a time. Items, descriptions and prices are read in and grouped by the menu’s own sections.

A photograph of one page never retires the rest of the menu. Only dishes in the sections the scan actually covered can be marked as gone, and a dish marked gone is never deleted — its notes stay readable and anyone can put it back with Still here.

The Verified badge

A note written while your phone is at the restaurant is marked Verified. Before you type, the note screen tells you which it will be.

Writing from home, on the train or the next morning works exactly the same and counts exactly the same. It simply carries no badge. Location is never required to write, and a restaurant with no location on file cannot be verified at all.

Whose notes you see

Every note in Dish It is public. What you control is whose you read:

YouYour own notes, with edit and delete.
FriendsNotes by people you follow, not counting your own.
EveryoneEvery note, yours included and marked “your note”.

Following is one-way. You can follow anyone; they do not have to agree and do not have to follow you back.

Notifications

Settings ▸ Notifications. You are asked for permission the first time somebody follows you, not at launch. You can turn each kind off separately.

Rating the same dish twice

Encouraged. Good in June and bad in July are both true and both worth reading. The dish row shows a badge when you have written more than once, and the average counts each person once, using their most recent note.

Something is wrong with a dish

Prices change and menus get misread. Anyone can correct a price or a name, and disagreements are shown rather than silently resolved — the dish lists who said what and when, with the newest claim shown at the top.

Reporting a note, and blocking somebody

Every note is written by a person, so occasionally one will be spam, abuse, or simply not about the food. Tap the on any note that is not yours:

Undo a block in Settings ▸ Blocked. You can also email dishit@dancykier.com about anything a report does not cover.

Deleting your account

Email dishit@dancykier.com from any address with your username and everything you have written will be removed. There is no email on file to verify against, so please include the user ID from Settings ▸ My ID.
